Protection against fire

The French body of legislation on construction and dwellings (Le Code de la Construction et de l’Habitation) relates to all buildings that are open to the public, to high-rise buildings, industrial buildings and even housing. These regulations determine the partitioning of buildings which provides protection of persons and property in the event of fire. The major role played by this partitioning it to prevent the spread of fire in the building itself or to neighbouring buildings. To this end the regulations and their articles take into consideration the type of building, the use, its height and accessibility for emergency services. In this way it determines the type of partitioning used and the levels of performance (E or EI), expressed in minutes, for the products or constructions to be used.

The development of reliable fire-protection glazed units has meant that their use has become widespread in the construction of public or commercial buildings in order to provide ever more light. This trend can be seen in the diversity and transparency of contemporary architecture which represents the best examples of the possible stylistic variations with modern fire-protection solutions.

V2S offers two ranges of glazed units which meet these requirements for protection against fire:
  • Pyrobelite®: the range of fire retardant laminated glass with reduced radiation,
  • Pyrobel®: the range of fire-break laminated glass.
